Earlier this month, the Canadian Burn Survivors Community (CBSC) Conference brought together burn survivors, fire fighters, medical professionals, and caregivers from across the country for a powerful week of connection and healing in Victoria, BC.

Centred around the theme “Reconnect with Self,” the conference created space for meaningful conversations about mental health, body image, self-esteem, identity, and self-love. It was a reminder that healing is a journey that extends beyond the physical.

Keynote speakers Aaron Volpatti and Don Schwartz, both athletes and burn survivors, shared their personal stories of resilience and growth. Their insights inspired others to reflect on their own experiences with strength and pride.

Throughout the week, participants took part in self-care activities such as massage therapy, pet therapy, hypnotherapy, yoga, and bodyweight workouts. Nature hikes and a portrait session offered opportunities for reflection, confidence-building, and moments of joy.

Thank you to everyone who made this week so impactful. Your courage, compassion, and willingness to connect helped create a truly welcoming and uplifting community.
