NORTH VANCOUVER – Capilano Suspension Bridge recently donated $23,302.07 to the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund in support of the annual Burn Awareness Week Program.
“We are very grateful for this donation for the Burn Awareness Week Program” said Tim Baillie, Chair of Burn Awareness Week and a Director with the BCPFF Burn Fund.
Burn Awareness Week is designed to teach kids how to be responsible for their personal safety, and increase family awareness of potentially harmful situations.
Each year an estimated 9,000 children in Canada visit hospital emergency room for burns and scalds and close to 1,000 are hospitalized as a result of these injuries. Approximately 120 children will die from their injuries each year.
The BAW program is educational, fun and interactive, and includes a popular colouring contest. It is designed to be delivered in the classroom with age-appropriate safety lessons for K-7. Some lessons are also available in French, Cantonese, Mandarin, and Punjabi.
Public and private elementary schools in British Columbia, parents, students – anyone – can access the program, which includes burn awareness safety tip information, student activity sheets, quizzes, colouring pages, and animated videos. The BAW program is available in PDF format for easy download and printing.
