Scam Alert

We are aware of fraudulent activity involving the unauthorized use of the Burn Fund’s name and cause. These scams falsely present themselves as official Burn Fund representatives, often over the phone, and attempt to solicit donations. They have been mentioning a “burn fund” and “fire fighters” and an attempt to collect credit card or other payment information.

To be very clear, the Burn Fund does not cold call individuals or request credit card information over the phone. Any such claims are fraudulent.

Unfortunately, these scams are increasingly common and often exploit crises or vulnerable individuals and communities.

  • Scammers are posing as humanitarian agencies and collecting money in exchange for the promise of safe passage or humanitarian aid.
  • Scammers are posing as literary agents to take advantage of struggling or up and coming writers.
  • They target people looking for work and offer fake remote positions that require the victim to buy equipment or deposit fraudulent checks.
  • They also contact people claiming to represent “local firefighters” and request donations to support wildfire fire fighting in the summer months.
