The Spread the Sunshine Team (made up of Sun Life Financial and 101.3 The River volunteers) set out in September 2014 to help 52 Charities in 52 weeks. Our goal was to provide charities in our community with exposure and help bring awareness and if needed donations for their cause.  In doing so we hoped that this would help build a stronger community and help those in need.

As our Team began to build traction in the first few months we were contacted by Caroline Longhurst of Ohh Chocolate Cafe who wanted to help us out in some way.  At the same time our Team had just decided to participate in the Mudd Sweat and Tears event to be held in Prince George in June which would help raise money for the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund!

We decided to contacted our local Fire Fighters to see if they would be willing to team up with us and of course Bryan Burleigh and Trent Blair jumped on board.  From this, the Mudd Pie was born!!!!

Caroline and her team at Ohh Chocolate Cafe crafted the delicious Mudd Pies full of Milk Chocolate, Pretzels, Rice Krispies, Oreos Cookie Crumbs and topped of with a candy worm!  100% of all Mudd Pie sales would go directly to the Burn Fund and we had a lofty goal to raise $5000.00.    We began selling the Mudd Pies at various locations around town at first, then worked into taking larger orders for deliveries.  We had local off duty fire fighters help us deliver to over 30 business around town.  After 3 months of we were able to raise $3020.25.  We are so thankful for the work that our local fire fighters do to keep our community safe and to Caroline Longhurst for her generosity and hard work to make this fund-raiser a phenomenal success.
