For Teachers
Burn Awareness Week is designed to teach kids how to be responsible for their personal safety, and increase family awareness of potentially harmful situations. The program takes only one to two hours to implement in your classroom. We supply all the materials you need to make the program a success. These tools not only help keep your students safe, they provide you with a fun, educational unit that is easy to incorporate into your yearly lesson plan.
Students are invited to enter the annual Burn Awareness Week Poster Contest. Every entrant wins a participation prize and fifty students can win money for their elementary school or BC Ministry of Education sanctioned distance education facility. There are seven regional prizes to be awarded, including a $1,000 grand prize and six $500 regional prizes. Regions are the Lower Mainland (three winners), Vancouver Island, Kootenays, Northern BC and the Okanagan (one winner for each area). Forty-three students win runner-up prizes of $50 each for their school or distance education facility. Complete prize details, rules and regulations are listed online at www.burnfund.org/BAW.

WHAT TEACHERS SAY ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
"Thank you for the Burn Awareness information and activity sheets.. It turned out that one of my students was burned quite badly on her legs the same week that we received the package. It made the whole class even more aware of how easily accidents can happen."
J. Jarvis, teacher, Captain James Cook Elementary School
"My grade 7 class had an informative mini-unit on burn awareness. The students had many interesting ideas and stories to share regarding the issue. As a teacher, I would like to thank you for providing a unit that was not only informative, but engaging at the same time."
S. Bains, teacher, Thomas Kidd Elementary
