YOGA SESSION PROVIDES STRESS RELEASE

Another sold out event brought the community together with respected senior yoga teacher and burn survivor Lyne Lantaigne.

This morning session gave the participants positive moves to release stress in spite of any existing physical challenges. All equipment was provided and the group was guided by Lyne's gentle and caring energy to go to a new level of awareness.

SAKURA DAYS AT VAN DUSEN GARDENS!!

35 members of the adult burn community came out to enjoy the beauty of the cherry blossoms and celebrate the culture of Japan with performances, demonstrations, dance and food.

A Tree Walk tour was presented as the community enjoyed the bursts of spring buds and appreciated the plein-air artists who persevered in spite of the rain drops which mostly stayed away!

FIREHALL TOUR/TRAINING AND BBQ!!

A FIM First! thanks to The Township of Langley Fire Fighters!

Over 25 members of the adult burn community were given an amazing experience of a fire hall tour, as well as an opportunity to participate in fire safety at the outdoor training facility.

Demonstrations took place that were informative and allowing the burn community to ask questions and interact with the large number of fire fighters on site. Sharing took place over a delicious bbq/lunch followed by personal portraits (in fire gear) with Sparky.

Thank you to Captain Jordan Sparrow and all the team who made this such a perfect day.

SURVIVORS COME TOGETHER TO SHARE!

An amazing group of survivors came together to share and bring support to the adult burn community. First time participants were warmly welcomed to the Spring Peer Support Group Session.

Inspiration, laughter, resources and the latest Future Is Mine news was shared with Lester Wong, survivor as the guest speaker who shared his amazing story.

Thank you to all the VGH team and Maggie Sampogna for making this evening a success.

TIME FOR LAUGHTER!

Over 20 members of the adult burn community were generously sponsored by VANCOUVER THEATRESPORTS and invited to a terrific evening of laughter and improvisation.

Located on Granville Island, everyone gathered for introductions, refreshments and endlessly enjoyed the talented and creative members of the Theatre Sports cast.

Relying on razor-sharp wit and lightning-fast reflexes, two teams of performers are pitted against each other in competitive improv matches. Using audience suggestions to fuel scenes, teams must create totally improvised situations on the spot.

Great evening - and pictures say it all!

SCAR RELAXATION EVENT!

Members of the burn community came from around the Province to meet with Leilani at her clinic to witness the procedures done at no cost for the burn community.

Before and afters were exhibited and a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere was provided for the participants to have one on one with Leilani and share with other survivors.

Individual appointments were also made by those who could not attend this event.

Thank you to Leilani for your continued support to The Future Is Mine.

PENGUINS, SHARKS AND SMILES!

An enthusiastic Future Is Mine group arrived at the sold out event at the Vancouver Aquarium in Stanley Park.

For many it was a first time visit and they were rewarded with a close up view of the Penguin Exhibit with the Vancouver Aquarium staff providing information about their habits.

In addition beluga whales, sharks and sea otters entertained our group who were all sponsored by the Vancouver Aquarium.

END TO A FANTASTIC YEAR AT FIM!

Over 100 members of the adult burn community, family and friends came together to enjoy our first "Sips & Apps/Mix and Mingle" party at the Creekside Community Centre.

Terry Abrams a long-time FIM supporter acted as bartender, and SAFEWAY sponsored the evening of refreshments and great food from their product offerings. Delicious!

Entertainment was provided by Melanie Dawn, (facepainting), James Hanson (close-up magician), extraordinary performers from the Underground Circus and the much loved Harry Hydrant!

No question - a great year at The Future Is Mine with more participants than ever before and look forward to seeing everyone in 2013.

HOLIDAY TREATS NEVER TASTED BETTER!

Members of The Future Is Mine community were sponsored by the top baking school in Vancouver Community College at this sold out event.

With volunteers from the baking school staff under the direction of baking school Head - Elizabeth Jang, the participants created shortbread and bird nest cookies to take home and serve over the holidays.

Lots of fun, laughter and baking tips learned by all.

A very generous gift as provided by Wiley Books went home with everyone.

Ann Coombs presented the Vancouver Community College volunteers with a gift of thanks for their time and commitment to The Future Is Mine adult burn community.

What a great way to start the Holiday Season - thank you to Vancouver Community College for their support!!

VOLUNTEERS TURN OUT IN RECORD NUMBERS!

The adult burn community came to Stanley Park to show their appreciation for the BCPFF Burn Fund and help set-up Bright Nights in record numbers!

From placing lights to decorating Christmas houses; nothing was missed. We want to thank the volunteers for their time, effort and their commitment to the biggest fund-raising project of the year for the BCPFF Burn Fund.

We deeply appreciate your enthusiasm while braving the elements!

BURN FUND ATHLETIC TEAM BOWLS FOR A FIRST!

Two enthusiastic teams came together at the iconic Ridge Bowling Lanes to show their talents, enthusiasm and bowling skills at this fun event!

Our experienced coach and long-time bowler Art Holt gave tips and they must have worked as this was a very close finish.

Team Two that comprised of Johnny Hansen, Eric Phillips, Tim Bavis and Monique Van de Plas took home the top honours and everyone was given a book of their choice as gifted from Ann Coombs to remember the day by.

MEET UP AT VGH IN RECORD NUMBERS!

Over 25 members from The Future Is Mine community came together to hear Joe Brooker share his experiences from the Canadian Burn Survivors Conference held in Calgary in June, 2012.

In addition, Brady Tupper and Lesa Sharp also contributed their experiences from past conferences.

Participants were able to share their stories and experiences over the generous donations of refreshments from the team at VGH! Networking continued until 9:30 p.m.

OUR BIGGEST EVENT EVER!

160 members from The Future Is Mine and Burn Camp community came together with their families to enjoy this sold out event!

ENVISION FINANCIAL again generously provided sponsorship for the 3rd Annual Pumpkin Patch at Aldor Acres that included hayrides, petting zoo, taking home pumpkins and a hot dog lunch.

Happy smiles were everywhere, and SPARKY was there to greet all the guests with a hug!

This year's colouring contest was held under the ENVISION tent as well as the opportunity for any member of the community to participate throughout the Province. Prizes included: iPod, Chapters Gift Certificate and Family Movie Pass for the winner that will be announced November 1, 2012.

The Township of Langley were again on site with volunteers, burn awareness information and offered the real thrill to sit in the driver's seat of the fire truck. This further created terrific community relations and setting the stage for realizing the dreams of those who want to be a fire fighter, as well as the young campers to connect with the adult burn survivors.

NOTHING COULD TASTE BETTER!

A sold out group from the FIM Community attended The Dirty Apron for an extraordinary cooking class that covered delectable Maple Roasted Berkshire Pork Tenderloin, Herb Roasted Potatoes, Apple & Green Bean Saute and Orange Creme Brulee. This amazing menu was cooked by all the participants and enjoyed with a glass of wine - making it a perfect afternoon.

Ann Coombs made a presentation to Chef David Robertson of The Dirty Apron along with gifts for his team.

This event included a signature cooking apron as a takeaway gift along with personalized folders of the recipes and cooking links for conversion calculators.

Everyone agreed this was a truly amazing event and thank The Dirty Apron for their generous sponsorship!!!

HOME RUN FOR OVER 100 AT THE NAT!

For the first time young burn survivors and members of the adult burn community and their families came together for the Vancouver Canadians vs. Boise game at The Nat!

Reserved seating behind Home Base made for a perfect day with a personal welcome from the owners of the Vancouver Canadians.

Ann Coombs presented the owners with BCPFF Burn Fund pins and small tokens of appreciation given the continued support from The Nat and Vancouver Canadians for this successful yearly event!

FUTURE IS MINE COMMUNITY CONNECT IN PENTICTON

Ann Coombs joined members of the adult burn community and their families at Linden Gardens for afternoon tea and sharing with members coming from Kelowna, Kaleden and Penticton areas. Great discussions and former camp connections were discovered - great time had by all!

BURN FUND ATHLETIC TEAM IS BORN!

Johnny Hansen led the first Burn Fund Athletic event up Grouse Grind in record time!

The newly released t-shirts were worn proudly by the team that included Rick Chang, Eric Phillips, Barbara Radford. The theme line is "Healing In Motion" and this was certainly true of today.

Supporters of the climbers went up on the Gondola with a prepared lunch by Korinna McNeil and Pat Chang who greeted the team. Everyone enjoyed refreshments and conversation before coming down on the Gondola - up was enough and in fog!

The Burn Fund Athletic Team is now launched and other events/cities will soon have their own team representatives. Thank you Johnny for your leadership!

BURN CAMP KICK-OFF!

What a special day! There was more water from the water guns than from the sky!

Everyone had such a wonderful time, and we were honored to have our sponsor ENVISION FINANCIAL with Susan and Vic Byrom in attendance with the Pumpkin Patch invitation (the chocolate pumpkins were delicious!) announcing the upcoming event in October.

Also we had Bob The Bear from the Vancouver Canadians who hugged many fans and handed out the schedules for this season and let everyone know about the upcoming game at The Nat. The campers and their families will be joining the Adult Burn Community for the first time this year at both of these events!

The Future Is Mine community celebrated two of this year's bursary winners; Shane Robert Stevens and Eric Phillips who received their framed award plaques and were congratulated by the BCPFF Burn Fund.

GAMBIER ISLAND JULY WEEKEND!

An enthusiastic group from The Future Is Mine headed to Gambier Island for an ideal long-weekend by the ocean as hosted by survivor Rick Chang and his wife Pat.

Many of the sold out group attended for the first time and enjoyed hikes, prepared meals by the super cook and hostess Pat Chang and lots of sharing. The best time ever and the photographs tell all!

SHARING AT ITS BEST!

A terrific group of survivors turned out to enjoy Sips & Apps at Joey's on Broadway and share with one another. Ken Mitchell, survivor from Burns Lake was given wonderful support on wearing his face mask!

The staff at Joey's were welcoming and the food was delicious.

Enthusiasm was everywhere as the excitement builds for the Gambier Island Weekend in July.

Thank you everyone for your continued support and look forward to seeing you at the next event.

IT JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER!

Over 20 members from The Future Is Mine community came out to experience the history, landmarks, foods and delicacies as offered on a busy Saturday in Vancouver's Chinatown.

Burn survivor Rick Chang and his wife Pat toured the enthusiastic group through the largest and the oldest Chinatown in Canada.

Tour included the famous Dr. Sun Yet-Sen Classical Chinese Gardens with the added treat of a traditional Dim Sum luncheon all specially ordered and enjoyed by all!

Imagine the tastes as everyone sampled har gau (shrimp dumplings), sui mai (pork dumplings) and congee (a thick, flavoured rice soup).

Chopsticks were mastered by many!

ANOTHER FIRST! ROCK CLIMBING AND TEAMWORK!

An enthusiastic group of first-time climbers came together to meet new challenges!

With expert guides managing the ropes there were many levels of success achieved and fears overcome.

The photographs say it all with the members of the burn community giving this a "foot up"!

Thanks to all the staff at Cliffhangers for their amazing encouragement and great safety tips.

Everyone left with a real sense of achievement.
