13th Annual Burn Awareness Week
Fire and burn injuries are the second leading cause of accidental death in BC for children aged one to four years, and the third leading cause of injury and death for those aged one to eighteen. Scald injuries top the list for 'type' of injury and most are preventable.
By targeting children in the high-risk group from pre-school to grade seven, the Burn Awareness Week program teaches children to be responsible for their own safety and make their families aware of potentially harmfull situations. Visit the Burn Awareness Week program site to see safety tips, activity and colouring sheets and fun animations. Students can enter the annual poster contest to win prizes for themselves and their school. A portion of the site is available in French, Cantonese, Mandarin and Punjabi.
